Ladies - Your future husband needs to sign a prenup!

I have a somali friend who is getting married. She does very well financially for herself mashallah, and is marrying a somali man who also does well for himself financially. I suggested that she gets a prenup and also have her fiancee get one too. I suggested that their prenups be based on the islamic teachings of what each spouse is entitled to incase of a divorce. For example: He isn't entitled to any of her money; She is only entitled to the 4 months of allowance after divorce / child support based on his income...etc.

She thought it was a great idea and told her fiancee who was agreeable. She and her fiancee sat down together with lawyers and culamaas to hash out the details of the prenup.

I always had this prenup idea in the back of my mind. Anger, bitterness and resentment can blind people during a divorce. Both partners will be forced to act in accordance to the islamic teachings via the prenups. The husband/wife can't take their partner to the cleaners and the man can't skimp on his islamic responsibilities financially.

Ladies - you are not legally safe from a man coming after your money. Take Wendy Williams, Jill Scott, Mary J Blige for example. Make that man sign a prenup! :denzelnigga:

Courts wouldn't give alimony anyway as they are both earning similar incomes, especially for today's new Somali marriages that dont last many, many years, which would be the minimum threshold for alimony. They would have to be out of the workforce for a long time too to be given alimony. They don't give alimony to a healthy, young person. The only people who have to worry about prenups are rich people or people with stay at home spouses in long marriages.

Why do you strike me as someone who will destroy peoples' marriages?

I find this western notion of splitting wealth quite odd in general. If my wife helped me build a business or assets I would very fairly, irrespective of the marriage, make sure she was a shareholder in those businesses and assets from the start and her shares would remain untouched, divorce or no. I can also understand, if he has the funds, compelling a man to support his children financially post-divorce or even the woman if the man is heavily disadvantaged or somehow disposed. Otherwise... we're divorced. We part ways and it ends there. Both ways.

Same xalimos who gives this types of advice to their girl friends are also the ones who have zero conditions when they fall in love with a man
