Living in an Arab country?

I might go to study in an arabic speaking nation for one year, I don't know which countries would be avaliable but what do you generally know about living there as a Somali. I have a western passport which I know sadly offers you far better opportunities.

Be careful. That region is dangerous rn. The school will probably drop the study abroad requirement for students who take arabic like colleges did with students who were studying russian (they gave them the opportunity to study at safer ex-ussr countries if they wanted to go abroad)

The whole region? To my knowledge, UAE and Qatar seem safe. I agree with you though. I don't really want to go. I was mofeso concerned with racism and such. But the war is also concerning. Things can change practically overnight.

The gulf is safe but I would still be cautious. Don’t worry about racism, you’ll be fine. There are many expats there and it’s unlikely you’ll interact with the natives any much anyways. I can’t think of any colleges there that western colleges would do exchanges with besides NYU in the UAE?

Get a stem degree that could potentially allow you to work overseas.

After a few years of work experience in the west you should be able to compete for a job in the Gulf. Especially if you have a nursing, Engineering or even a medical degree. Plenty of doctors, nurses and engineers from the west have moved to the Gulf.

The only one I see is Jordan which is a bit too close to Palestine for me.

That's what I was considering. I like humanities and I want to do a post graduate into a law but STEM is advantageous unfortunately I am so bad at science.

The STEM courses I'm looking at also has a study abroad course. Thank you for the advice.

Don’t study French it’s not worth it. I’d say do Mandarin or Arabic. As everyone else said do a STEM degree. They love the sciences. But first get your education within your country, work there for a bit then go to those countries. I knew a lot of people especially Adeeros who were making so much more money compared to what Canada would have given them.

Why do you need to go to an Arab country to study Arabic? It’s not like anybody in Arab countries actually speaks Classical Arabic. You can probably study Arabic in your country and consume Classical Arabic media from the news & religiously lectures online.Sounds like a dumb plan to travel to an Arab country to study Arabic and only to find out they speak a dialect. Doesn’t matter if it’s Moroccan,Egyptian or Jordanian, they are all very different/far from Classical Arabic.
