They only have a problem with it now because they don't want to be associated with Hawiyes. Not all MJs have a Reer Bari accent anyway.Reer waqooyi has culturally almost always meant folks from Sool and Sanaag to Djibouti while when people speak of reer bari they mean folk up in Bari and Nugaal. Sure Bari is strictly more northern geographically but is socially and culturally seen as Bari. When people mean reer waqooyi accent they sure as hell don't mean the one spoken in Bari.
That's true, there is Mudug accent as well, accent is the least qabyaalad thing among somalis. You'll have people from different subclans with different accents.

Most of the great classical Somali poetry is in Waqooyi accent. Your ancestors spoke Somali in waqooyi accent, you should be more respectful.
