Mathematical Resources and Advice On Getting Started in Maths

INTRODUCTION

I have made a compilation of mathematical tools that I hope people here will find useful.

I have also made a compilation of textbooks and an additional video that helps viewers on how to organise their learning.

SANGAKU

Sangaku Maths is a website that acts as a libary of maths. In it, you find topics about subjects such as analysis, number theory, geometry and more.

It is also on the Google App Store as well. However it is not on iOS, so you will need to use the website if you are on iOS.

DESMOS

Desmos is a website that has a number of tools.

The available tools are:
Desmos is very versatile - it can act as a mathematical programming language, as I have seen one user make a 3D game in it.

GEOGEBRA

Geogebra is a tool similar to Desmos, so you should have an idea of what it's like. It is just as useful and in some ways better than Desmos, so give it a try.

Textbooks

Here are some textbooks that are I hope you find useful:
Using these tools, you should then organise your learning in a way that helps you become better at Maths.

(Do not just do all the books at once, pick two. Preferably pick MP1 and MFCP1 and go from there.)

You can look to this Youtuber for guidance as to how to manage your learning/time.

Here are some more books that offer guidance on mastering the basics of mathematics and some of the basic applied mathematics subjects:

First Aid in Basic Mathematics (Theodore Hamey, 1983)
First Aid In Mathematics (by Robert Sulley, 2010)
Electronic Version of Robert Sulley's book

You need to make a archive.org account, in order to access the first book.

For the second book, you can either buy the book using the link, which leads to Amazon. (or buy the second book from a different e-commerce website)

You can also access the second book by using the electronic version on Google Books.

With this link however, you can preview the electronic version a number of times before you are unable to use it any more. The number of times, I do not know.
To circumvent this, use a VPN to get over the, or simply delete your cookies / clear your cache.

These two books should be able to help you on a number of basic topics, such as:
  • Arithmetic
  • Decimals, Percentages, and etc
  • Geometry
  • Basic Financial Maths (Money problems)
  • Basic Statistics
  • Basic Algebra
and more.

The first book has a foreword which you may find useful too.
It has some tips as well on how to approach the book as well, if you seek to teach others (or yourself.)

You can also apply those tips, when you use the the second First Aid book as well.

In america fields like physics and engineering usually goes something like this in college. Algebra, Calc 1, Calc 2, Calc 3. Differential Equation. Then get to choose between linear algebra or Statistics class

Some tools I use

https://chatgpt.com/ my got to for almost everything now a days

https://www.chegg.com/ Has solutions to most homework problems. Kind of became obsolete with chat gpt so dont use it much now a days

Nice but don't overuse GPT or similar software - I only use it for clarification of topics
