That’s why I stopped asking ... asking my brothers or husband to do something is like asking a 5 year old to do it. Constant directions and supervision is needed. Then I think what’s the point ... it’s quicker if I do it.

It's an act I caught my brother acting goofy and when I corrected him he told me to do it instead. I walked away and I ignore him when he asks for help. You need to put your foot down otherwise you'll end up doing everyones chores for them.

Because Somalis tend to have rowdy 6+ kids. Children are messy and a handful. Housewives hardly get time to themselves.

Being a Somali housewife is very different to being a suburban cadaan housewife with 2 kids with a cute house and a nice lawn.

Most of the time, you have the older kids helping at home. So it balances out.

Not in the first few years though. Very common to see Somali women with 4-5 kids under the age of 8. That is so difficult.

Once all the kids grow up, its amazing but its a huge struggle in the beginning.
