The reality is that Somalia is in the process of rebuilding from the ground up, and the absence of a fully functional navy is indeed a limitation. However, it would be a mistake to assume that you have free reign over the seas in the region.
The FGS has shown respect and consideration by permitting Somaliland to make deals and agreements with companies like DP World in Berbera for their own benefit. Arrangements like this wouldn’t have been possible without the blessings of FGS.
The truth is that we could make things very difficult for you if we had the same one-sided hate you have for us. The FGS's response is merely a gentle reminder that the recent treasonous actions taken by the SL regime will not lead you down the path you think it does.
We obviously don’t want to hinder progress in the region, nor do we want to see anyone starve. It’s unfortunate if you can't break free from the years of hateful rhetoric and vicious propaganda that you’ve been exposed to.
When it comes to securing the waters, the task has been outsourced for now, which isn’t ideal, but it’s certainly better than having no oversight at all. Call it what you want, the situation is far from perfect, but it’s a step towards reasserting control over Somalia’s territorial waters.
