Minnesota Muslims (Somalis) are divided over presidential race, with some abandoning Democrats over Gaza

You can't forget a lot of Somalis in MN are voting republican due to the LGBT curriculum debacle. They've lost on that issue and will continue to lose unless they decide to send their children to private schools. They're voting against their best interest.

Whether you like it or not MN is a safe blue state. AIPAC runs dems/reps on Israel and will continue to stay that way until most Americans realize it's not in their benefit.
youre right that is another critical issue and shows how traditionally somalis are more conservative leaning as a community, they even talk about that

He said Somali American social, cultural and religious values align with the GOP, but most of them voted for Democrats out of concern that the GOP was rooted in racism and more hawkish on war. Now, he said, Republicans are doing more outreach and many in his community disagree with Democrats on foreign policy. “The Democrats are going to come in for a rude awakening,”

So even though their conservative leaning on their relgious and social values. we were still drawn to democrats due to their warmer view towards immigrants, better welfare policies and open to immigration. But I think that the scales have really been rotating towards the opposite direction nowadays as the somali community starts to get more established and the democrat party starts moving in directions we dont like... like Lgbt, ignoring palestine and poor economy and things like that.

I have relatives that are green card holders, and I don’t understand how a Somali that migrated here legally is grouped with illegal migrants.

im not going to be voting for the president im leaving those boxes blank. Its not like my vote matters, you don't even have to be a conspiracy theorist to follow this view, it has actual bearing. If you're not a swing state, your vote does not matter. Maybe if I was in Wisconsin it would have some power.

Even if it did have some power, Both the candidates are garbage and I dont agree with a lot of views on both sides. So why force my self to make a choice. If I were forced, I would probably chose trump because kamala has been vp the past 4 years.

You know what I think is important? Local elections, make sure u guys vote for the Somali candidates that will voice the views of the community. They will have a far greater effect to your life and its a choice that you have a real contribution too. Even if they arent somalis running, still pay attention to your local positions..

I was reading this in the paper today cant believe this little section described the situation of minnesota somalis so well, Im sick and tired of impovershied somali europe immigrants keep hating on my takes.

This accounts for all the sides, all the democrat somalis in office of course their backing kamala out of party doctrine (maybe fear too).

But the people they think otherwise, every single take on here I can corroborate this is how mn somalis feel. Only thing im weirded out by is the muslim leaders endorsing a candidate, I really dont think they should be endorsing anyone at all.

Heres a particular take I read in the article that just had me agreeing 100%

Even the cedar somalis are frustrated

If 35% 40% are willingly voting for trump, imagine the amount that is voting third party or completely abstaining?
This abandon kamala movement is real and gaining traction and any somali in minnesota knows this is the case, unlike a handful of confused users here -- this is even coming from the star tribune...
Not from Minnesota but I'm always going to vote Democrat.

The Republican lead supreme Court was the nail in the coffin for me. Trump annoited 3 Republican supreme Court judges during his term with the help of the Republican led Senate. I'm not a fan of having a a conservative led supreme Court for the foreseeable future.

The reversing of roe V.wade and the banning of affirmative action really pissed me off.

I've honestly gotten over the Palestine issue. I don't seem them implementing a two state solution anytime soon. Feel bad for their people though.

"The voter, Sharmake Mohamud of Rosemount, owns a trucking company and usually votes Democrat. Now, his top issue is the economy, which he said is “terrible.” It was better under Trump, he said."

Literally searched up economic performance by presidential parties :mjkkk:

"Since World War II, the United States economy has performed significantly better on average under the administration of Democratic presidents than Republican presidents. The reasons for this are debated, and the observation applies to economic variables including job creation, GDP growth, stock market returns, personal income growth, and corporate profits. The unemployment rate has risen on average under Republican presidents, while it has fallen on average under Democratic presidents. Budget deficits relative to the size of the economy were lower on average for Democratic presidents.[1][2] Ten of the eleven U.S. recessions between 1953 and 2020 began under Republican presidents.[3] Of these, the most statistically significant differences are in real GDP growth, unemployment rate change, stock market annual return, and job creation rate"

Although the supreme court is suppose to be partyless, the justices do have an obvious bias depending on what party appoints them. Im mostly indifferent on that.

I understand why affirmative action would piss you off since it gave us some good advantages with uni admissions and such at the cost of rejecting some merit,

I dont understand why you pissed off about roe v wade, I mean I think its a good policy to stop that type of stuff being supported by federal government. It didnt ban it, it just left the decision up to the states with some putting restrictions or some allowing it with less restrictions then it was previously.. Im not even mentioning the muslim aspect of this either.

Now president performance of the economy is just straight up unfair...
You compared the economy since WW2 back in the late 1930s up until now while the majority of the people are only looking at the past 10 years maximum and current treatment.

This dosent even account for the party switch that was done post ww2 into the 60s and early 70s. Democrats actually use to be worse then modern day republicans, their entire ideology weirdly switched.

Basically what im trying to say is parties and their ideology and policy do not stay rigid, especially over a time period as large as u gave. Imagine telling a 70s 80s or 90s democrat if they supported the lgbt?

There even some debate that the economy is not even influenced by the presidential election, but i disagree with that especially given these past 4 years. The 2020 recession happened due to a pandemic and this was after many years of good growth.

And you also cant disagree with peoples own observations and this current time, how do you think the economy was in comparison to trump. Ignoring all of his other views.

A random alcoholic odey that’s getting kick backs from conservatives does not speak for us. Ilhan Omar and 35 Somali imams have already endorsed Kamala several weeks ago.
