A trend in developing Asia is starting to emerge, I'll be focusing on India but similar dynamics are there in Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, etc.
At similar levels of real purchasing power, Indians today in the HIGHEST FERTILITY states have LOWER FERTILITY than Koreans had when they had those income levels. Indian women in high-TFR states are having ***two fewer children*** on average than Korean women had at similar incomes.
And if we look at the richest states/union territories in India like Goa, we can see that ultra-low fertility is very likely in India's future. India will end up having a huge wave of old retirees when the country is still rather low income.
