The estimates online I've seen are 15-17m speakers in Somalia, 4.5m in Ethiopia, 2.5m in Kenya and an additional 500,000 in Djibouti and these are low estimates.

Most likely those are 5-10 year old estimates I think we are in the range of 30-35 mill speakers now

I think they mean native African languages I also think Swahili is more widespread in Africa

Arabic language is the language with the most speakers in Africa. You have close to 273 million people who speak the Arabic language. In Egypt alone, you have 117 million people who speak Arabic. When you add the population of Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Algeria, Western Sahara, and Mauritania, you get over 273 million people speaking Arabic.
