Mother’s AncestryDNA Journey

Garaad Awal

Former African
AncestryDNA has a Journey feature and those from the Horn generally only get Eastern Africa like my father. Recently they added a Gulf of Aden Journey for my mother which is correct as her Ciidigaale father was born there (Aden) to a mixed Somali mother (Habar Yoonis) who was also born there (Al Hodeida). Pretty interesting tbh!

Wll horta you are the only person who can verify me as HA, but almost everyone knows my answer in this forum. In reality I don't care what anyone thinks or believe about my results. Majority of people here motive is qabalisit agenda and they accuse me of things but I will be honest what I know of my family tree lineage.

I have no known connection to yeman that I am aware, privately I can give you my full abtirsi, our aqil and sultan of Adaraxman Sacad Muuse to verify my origin. We are known in two locations, maqaxinta inanta agtisa tulo yare known as malowley in Hargeisa and horidhadley.

There are couple of people in my relative list who are 100% Arabian peninsula or European. But I think something is wrong with 23andme algorithms when it comes to calculating relatives that are above 5th cousin. Here are some examples

These are only the first 3 pages of 23andme relative list. There is no way I am related to at least 25% of my 23andme relative list.

You have legit Arab ancestry and it looks like it could be from Hadhramawt or the Tihama coast judging by the minor South Asian & Bantu.

My mother also has full Arabian Peninsula matches (scoring 100%) mostly from the Gulf as I don’t think enough Yemenis test on AncestryDNA. Also she matches 2 Palestinians with significant Arabian admixture and a North African who also scores some Arabian on AncestryDNA. 1 Turkish girl from the Hatay (formerly an Arab province of Syria).

I believe you are HA walaal. Just like my mother’s admixture was via a woman your clan’s admixture probably came via Yemeni women as well but probably farther back but perhaps your clan were very endogamous and maintained these high Arabian levels despite being an HA Somali clan.

Any of the two scenarios you presented are possible wll, for sub clan it's less likely and harder to proof, so far only me and my second cousin are tested, but you more likely to be right than wrong.

On your maternal side, how far is your yemani connection. 3rd cousin ? Does it show in 23andme.

AncestryDNA is specifically targeted for African Americans and other similar ethnic groups. I think it's less accurate for East Africans. But those matches for your mother is definitely a sign of recent Arabian peninsula. Does it show in your results?

Whatever Yemeni in me is to small to see as matches for my 23&me. I only get Ethiopian matches just like my dad who gets more than me despite not having any Ethiopian highland ancestry from that side (100% Isaaqs).

From what my mother told me, her grandmother was half HY Musa Carre half Yemeni from Al Hodeida. She moved to Aden from Al Hodeyda and met my great grandfather who arrived to Aden for work from Gx parts of Hawd.

Her are some of my mothers non-Somali admixed matches. I found more North Africans this time, 1 Libyan and two possible Moroccan/Algerians. The rest are Saudis & Emiratis.

messaged her, she’s Saudi from Al Yamama (east)

You are like 16% Peninsula Arabian probably a great grandparent

Yes 30% Arabian but thats because also I have 2.3% Sudan, 2.4% Ethiopian/Eritrean, 1.0% south and central Asia, 0.1% Chinese and 1.6% Congolese and south east african. I am only 73.8% Somali in 23andme
A long as you are paternally Somali you are good to go, I’ve seen one Garre with 15% Somali and the rest Ethiopian/Eritrean, his haplogroup is ev32
