True taking out the leadership of a group will help a little but once the ideology is in entrenched like it is in Southern Somalia the group will never be finished off only remain dormant till they come back with new faces and more violence constant surveillance is required along with reeducation teaching the youth true sunni islam

Take out the leadership and they'll be like unorganised headless chicken for a while.

During that time you can easily pick them up without the need of a military campaign.

They currently work in cells so you can only catch them all once you find the guy who's in contact with all the cells.

we have some high ranking intelligence officials on somalispot guys ;

Somalia only has one division worth of army, the highest rank in the Somali army should be one major general. Everyone else should be demoted to Colonel or lower. The Somali Army should be organized into 12 regiments of 1000 men under one of those Colonels, that should be the entire general staff of the Somali army.

So, 12 regimens each consisting of 1000 able men led by colonel or lower ranking officer, in other words a one division.

Sounds like a start. But going forward, Somalia needs bigger army or at least reserves in case a larger army invades it.

But I do see where you going with this.

So what do you think about their armaments? What type of weapons’ systems should the SNA possess?

Well at the moment the army needs to literally just defeat and reoccupy southern Somalia, currently occupied by al-Shabaab. Al-Shabaab is not very big, and the army has far more soldiers than al-Shabaab does, but the Somali government is corrupt and a lot of the soldiers aren't being paid or don't actually exist, and that money is going to corrupt generals (probably the people who just got fired).

Just arm and pay 10,000 men, give them technicals and RPG-7s and march them from town to town until Shabaab no longer exists.

I don't think its that easy to defeat an insurgency this is guerrilla warfare if it was that easy the the US would of defeated Taliban and ISIL long ago

Shabaab isn't fighting guerrilla warfare though, and has low popular support. They rule over whole districts of Somalia. Defeat them militarily and territorially, use a carrot and stick approach and allow amnesty.

Mostly corruption coupled with nepotism.I believe Farmaajo is getting the military ready for a real offensive.He is just waiting for a Turkish troop build up, I believe around 1-2k Turkish troops have been trained with 500 danab forces.Using these troops to launch an offensive while keeping the previous troops in defence the government can push alshabab back from all strongholds.Very exciting times, I have cousins in the Turkish base

This doesn't even mention the soldiers trained by UAE and the military bases being built in puntland , shout out to @DalJecel , I believe we can get to 100k troops by the end of this term.centralisation is the only major problem
When is the facility in puntland finished?

They control territory because no one is challenging them in those districts or the surrounding bush when SNA and Amisom go out to fight them or sit back in their bases they use guerilla tactics on them IEDs,VBIEDs,mines,ambushes,suicide attacks I don't know what you would call that style of fighting true Somali people are losing faith in them but few work against them out of fear they still got a whole of supporters and they have spies in the cities,in the bush,in the SNA they have inside info on whatever is going on businesses pay tax to them livestock herders pay tax to them and their fearless and battle hardened it won't be easy to dislodge them
