The governments are hardcore secular and have tried to wipe Islam out.

The people are religious and it is increasingly becoming more religious. Expect to increasingly hear a lot more about Central Asian Muslims.

There were devastating wars there in very recent history and its currently a police state. Russia annexed it not long ago.

Which is odd considering they are surrounded by Muslim majority countries, shared long history with them and yet there were zero resistance against communism.
