My atheist boy tells me he can go to heaven

Your friend is an atheist, so doesn't believe in heaven. He was taking the piss out of you/ your religion.

Afaik, there is quite a bit of variation on this topic. Some believe nobody stays in hell forever, everyone goes to heaven eventually, including atheists. Some believe it is exclusive to Muslims/ those on the right path through history. Some believe in exemptions for those who were never taught Islam/ knew enough about Islam. So it depends who you ask.
