PEACE THAT IS BROKEN CAN NOT BE MENDED
A man once lived in a house with a snake. The snake was not aggressive or harmful. Every night, the children and the livestock passed near the snake, but it never harmed them. One day, the man thought to himself and said, “Oh, why don’t I just kill the snake to make sure it doesn’t harm my livestock or children?”
The man went to the tree where the snake slept and said to himself, “Strike it on the neck with a sword!” But when he missed, the sword struck the tree instead. The snake woke up and fled into a hole.
That night, when the man and his family were asleep, the snake came out and bit his eldest son. The son died as a result.
The next morning, the man went to the snake and said:
“Hey, snake, let us reconcile and make peace!”
The snake replied:
“Oh, man, from the beginning, there was peace between us. You attacked me, and now I see the mark of your sword on the tree, and you see your son’s grave. A pact will not be established between us, so let us separate!”
