I think you are confusing the somalis living in Bahir dar with the Somali living in Jigjiga.
Amharic is a foreign language to us.
Its like saying belgiums should not speak french because it is already spoken in France.

Amharic culture is not our culture nor their language is not our language.Amhara is not the populous ethnic group in Ethiopia the6 are second after Oromo and Somalis come third place.
So if I was to learn a language it would be oromo langugae of which 40 to 50 million people of that ethnic background and close to a million somalis speak as well as millions of other ethnicities.
The days Ethiopia was synonymous with Amhara is gone because those are the dark era where feudal amhara controlled most of the resources in Ethiopia and forced people to adopted amharic names so as to access education,jobs and high status in the society.

There was no referendum carried to ask people to chose amharic language.
The amharic language is a tool of oppression for majority of other ethnic groups in ethiopia and will eventually be left for peoples choice.No one will endure to learn amharic language or allow amhara to benefit from it at the expense of othes.

Before you even you speak about other Ethnic groups in Ethiopia.Amhara ethnic group have close to 20% muslims while Tigray ethnic group have 10% or more toghter you add this group regardless of creed they are not even same number of muslim oromos in Ethiopia.

Abysinia history aka Axumite history is very old and it was under Tigrayan/ Eritrean dynasty which lasted for a millenium and streched as far as yemen.

This empire is the one that welcomed the first muslim refugees in axum.This dynasty had good relations with muslims.

It was around the 10 th century that Yodit a jewish empress came to power and almost destroyed axum and almost wiped out chritsanity from the region.

It was after the fall of this dynasty that amhara took over and tried toncreate fake history of solomonic roots.amhara tried to force their authority onto the tigrayans and Somalis and that is when the battles started in the 14th century and raged for a century or more.

They brought the growth of Ethiopian islam on themselves when they started a genocidal campaign to eliminate Ethiopian muslims. In wollo, Emperor Yohannes as @Sheikh Kulkuli said in the council of Boru Meda forced the Muslims to convert to christianity. When they refused he massacred thousands of them.

I once asked this Ethiopian girl what her ethnicity was she got nervous apparently she was kambaata never heard of them so read up on them and these people and those like gedeo were peasants who were slaves to the Amhara feudal lords for centuries they and 100s of groups number less than a million they all are being forced to speak Amharic, and abandon their culture a few centuries later they will be in the history books only super sad.
