For example, I always found it so hilariously wild that they basically have a much longer coastline than the USA yet they have also always had a "port crisis" because most of that coastline freezes over and needs expensive, "ice-breaker" tankers while some can't even be traversed with those when they freeze over.

Putin wanting Crimea and the Donbass is a lot less nationalism and expansionism and a lot of just wanting a bloody viable port. Area ≠ useful land.
