@AbdiJohnson The amount of capital in Banadir compared to other states is simply astounding. The difference is mind boggling.
The rest of the country is like 20 years behind Mogadishu in almost all aspects.

This shit wont last a month
Isn't this private investment though?
@Thegoodshepherd how many people live in Banadir? Let's say 20% of Somalia citizens lives there. Do you believe alot more than 20% of private investment is spent there?
Probably not. Somalis will invest where their clan resides even if the return isn't that great. This is where they feel their investment is most secure.
Much more than 20% of private investment goes to Mogadishu, I would say closer to 40%. Mogadishu has first mover advantage over all other Somali towns. There will never be a Somali city as big or developed as Mogadishu. The only city that can maybe replicate a little of Mogadishu is Kismayo which is geographically very similar, but even it will probably not reach half the size of Mogadishu. Hargeisa could have been a possibility but it is located in a water scarce setting and is inland.
Are Banadir Somalis more likely to return home and invest?
I would say yes. Diaspora Somalis from Banadir know they can maintain an ok level of living standards, while others know that they cannot maintain an ok standard of living in their home town. I'm from Galkacyo, which is a pretty good place by Somali standards, but I know if I move there it will be very very expensive to maintain an ok standard. This is why if I ever live in Somalia I would rather live in Kismayo than in Galkacyo.
