Somalis were not religious back than, check out your parents family albums lots of pictures of women without hijaab or jilbaab. We had few secular socialists reformist but the vast majority especially in urban areas were not overly religious.

They would also settle there, since it was literally the only place that wasn't a hellhole and had basic human needs such as hospitals, schools, police institutions, etc. The country wasn't as heavenly like as we now see on it youtube and other platforms.

Although I do think there is an exaggeration, yes Mogadishu was the only place that was being developed and if you wanted to start a business you went their. Look at garbeharay, siyaad bare hometown its a backward toolo. But Alxamduliilah now we are more devolved and decentralized that each region has had amazing growth.
