They only accepted them because as America became more prosperous and needed more immigrants the Anglos became a minority and decided to include all people from Europe and Armenia as “white ”

I don’t understand the prejudice the Anglos dished out on the Irish when the Irish are Celtic like the Scottish, the Welsh and those from Exeter. They hated the Irish probably because the Irish were fierce rebels.


Whiteness’ like blackness is a social construct that came about during colonization and slavery of black folks. During the early days of slavery, poor Anglos and the Irish were indentured servants who were treated little better than black slaves. Therefore both white and black slaves used to rebel and team up against land owners which is why you’ll find that draconian racist laws started to pop up towards the end of the 1600s and those laws were created to make poor whites whether Anglos or Irish be seen as superior due to so called ‘white heritage’ to those of African heritage. Before the 1600s, concepts like ‘whiteness’ and ‘blackness’ weren’t fully fleshed out and race politics were in their infancy if even acknowledged.

The concept of whiteness via laws were all done to curtail rebellion and it worked because if you can convince the lowest echelons of ‘white’ society as being superior and use them to fight against slave uprising and hold down the status quo, slave masters were able to fully control both poor white men and down trodden black slaves.
