No Red Sea Access For Ethiopia

How about the fact they've got an air force and Somalia doesn't have one? Is that not a big problem

Nope. Air superiority can't compensate for a weak , deflated, underfunded and famished military.

@New World some more updates

We cover this in this thread the state Ethiopia is in

So using their air force against Somalia for example wouldn't do much at all?

Ethiopia’s air force may seem like an advantage on paper, but air superiority alone cannot win a war - especially against a determined and well-organized resistance

Here's why:
Ethiopia’s army is overstretched, having fought multiple conflicts (Tigray War, Amhara-Fano uprisings, Oromo insurgencies).

Their military budget is drained, and soldiers are unpaid, underfed, and demoralized.

The government is facing economic collapse, even maintaining military aircraft is expensive.

Air power is useless if you don’t have a strong, well-funded military to back it up.

Plus we know from the past, that Somalia’s terrain and urban warfare tactics would make airstrikes far less effective. You can bomb a country, but unless you have a strong ground force to take over territory, air power alone is useless.

Ethiopia used their Airforce superiority on Somalia during the Ogaden still got defeated and we took over large parts with our ground forces. They and Americans used air superiority in Somali interventions/invasions still got pushed out after receiving heavy resistance

Also Ethiopia’s air force consists mostly of outdated Russian and Soviet-era jets (SU-27, MiG-23, MiG-21). Aging aircraft require expensive maintenance, and Ethiopia’s struggling economy makes this difficult.

Modern air defenses (drones, MANPADS, radar systems) can counter air superiority. Somalia’s private sector can fund national defense—if needed, drones and air defense systems can be acquired.

Ethiopia’s air force is not a modern, high-tech power like the U.S. or China—it has serious limitations.

I could mention other things like Somalia's strenght in assymetrical warfare etc

There is so many reasons why i could say they are a paper tiger. If Ethiopia were truly strong, it wouldn’t be struggling with internal revolts, famine, and economic disaster. A paper tiger with jets is still just a paper tiger.

To many people see the port as end of the world. its not and power dynamics can shift in future. somalia has 10k ethiopian troops inside country who said they not leaving and saying they need to secure border. it will be much harder to dislodge these folks vs port deal inside heart of somalia. these border folks been under Ethiopians so long many choose them over fgs. FGS is being cut up by ethiopia to where it will be just bendair and another FMS.

Fair enough hopefully with a better government an actual army can be built with proper air defences

They still haven't given up yet. Here's general berhanu jula saying it's a matter of time until Ethiopia joins the red sea community

Some hours ago he said Ethiopian military is preparing for an invasion from "outside foreign forces"
Hope this is done peacefully?? These people are sick. I wish they would just leave us alone and tend their own affairs.

Also HSM has zero authority to authorize or enforce anything. The guy is just a walking stooge that parades around like some moron. Waa wax iska hadlaayo , the more he does the more he digs his own grave and bumps head with other regional govts. You really believe he can decide port entry via Puntland, Jubbaland and Galmudug?

He is also not backed into a corner or militarily presurred. The chips in reality were in Somalia's hands, with the commitment by Egypt and Eritrea as support and Ethiopia's weakned state (diplomatic isolation, economic collapse, weakened military) don't really offer them any wiggle room to negotiate from a position of strenght.

Alas we have reason for why he is doing this. He is using Ethiopians as political leverage against Ahmed Madobe and Jubbaland.

They signed a defence agreement that will enable Somalia to build it's military industry.

The military also plans on trying to aquire and rebuilds their airforce

But most of this was put in motion by Farmaajo, i haven't seen any real evidence of meaningful progress over the years and months these aspirations have been reported.

That’s what it always was about. The problem for him is he is a lame duck running out of time both in terms of his presidency and financial support/shabaab encroachment. He is an utter fool and the Ethiopians know it. He has a little over a year left and he will try to get an extension but I doubt it works out.

Did you watch the interview with Ahmed Madobe?

Ahmed Madobe, the Jubaland leader, accuses him of undermining the military campaign by allowing Al-Shabaab escape routes instead of coordinating a multi-front offensive.

He said instead of surrounding them on all fronts, he made it so that they only face them from one front and while they escape into another area without being met there. Their strategy doesn't work because AS is using guerilla war tactics, he mentioned how AS can't even enter Puntland and uses Puntland as an example of succesful approach as we can see in their war against Daesh"

The claim is that Puntland’s approach effectively blocking militant movement has been more successful, whereas HSM’s approach has allowed Al-Shabaab to regroup and persist.

Yes, that’s why Deni left early on. He told Culusow to his face at the NCC that he needed to coordinate the entire war with the whole country but Culusow refused and Deni said kiss my ass.
