I got nothing bad to say about him. If everyone just let him cook we at worst would be like other soviet satellite states. At best he would’ve had nationalized the oil reserves and made us an East African oil state. It doesn’t have to be oil either literally any sort of unified economy is better than what we have now.
Yeah I imagine the elites of the 1960s civilian government hated him because he put a stop to their corruption and theft of funds lol. Edna Adnan and her husband Egal used to travel the world visiting other politicians, partying and getting drunk, all at the expense of other Somalis.

The geopolitics of the Cold War can pretty much be epitomised by the Horn from 1960s to 1991 (It is no coincidence that Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia all were in crises in the year 1991).
More specifically, Kacaan was of course USSR friendly (that's who aided and abetted the assassination for Sharmarke to pave the way for the coup, there are no such thing as a bloodless coup) from 1969 until 1977, Ogaden War, then there was a period of flirting by Somalia (1978-1981), then by the 1980's it was all USA who funded the Kacaan regime.
So in reality, it was actually Reagan and towards the end Bush Snr who funded and turned a blindeye towards the destruction he caused throughout the 80's and not USSR. The USSR period was stable and joyful to be fair, so many political milestones.

Barre became a true dictator/genocider after he realised he was losing power (the USSR betrayal for Ethiopia)
And the US did PR for Barre to protect Somalia's image, actual insanity

Barre had a part to play in state decline but I blame the interahamwe USC miltias the most. Barre left with Mogadishu still intact and they could've stopped there and brought everyone together but turned it to Darood vs urur samale. After that, these cawaans turned their guns on each other and the rest is history. This is why somalia is fragmented and will never recover as it is.

He was our Paul Kagame oo la garan wayay(misunderstood) a man of great vision, a great man of setting up Somalis to not only survive but set a course so they thrive while keeping their cultural identity intact.
He told all his advisors and ministers anything that doesn't address those long term goals will be dismissed irrespective of family, friends, clan interest. Truly a man ahead of his time period and peers and honoured by us 30 years later which is to late tho, but history has definitely proven him to be the best man for Somalia when compared to 91 to 2024 period.
Siyad is my political hero anything I think of I always check it off with how would siyad grade it.
But in 91 to 2024 period I choose between hellish players and abdillahi yusuf was the least worst and is my inspiration in civil war Somalia. Someone needs to grow a backbone and balls and stop these moryans(highway bandits and propery looters) and terrorists(zako cash cow) and political leaders(looting aid, taxes, loans to somalia). Abdillahi tried his best but it's still there these enemy of somali people.
