Similarly this Ottoman map during the 1600 also refers Somali territories as 'Cadal'

Guys don't dwell on the adal name for Northern Somalia as it was probably a layover for when the ottomans were allied with the adal sultanate in the 16th century. The adal sultanate was extinct several centuries prior to this map.
It's similar to how the Arabs and Persians called the Byzantine empire the Roman empire/Rum (even though technically it was still a continuation of the extinct Roman empire in some sense).

Interesting that Europe/russia is divided by the Volga River with asia and that the ottoman possessions in the Balkans including Constantinople are in Europe.
I'm always surprise to see how accurate the propotion was of the world 200 years ago
