The final agreement to develop a greenfield economic free zone in Somaliland to complement the growth of the Port of Berbera has been signed between DP World and its government in Dubai.

The global trade enabler expects to break ground on the 12 square kilometre free zone project this year. Located next to the port, it will support the growth of Berbera as a regional trading hub and generate jobs.

DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said: “Our vision for Berbera is to make it a regional maritime hub in the Horn of Africa and its development will encourage growth for the region’s economy. It’s also a boost for local prosperity – jobs for the people of Somaliland and future generations. We look forward to bringing our global experience here and to help develop the Berbera Corridor, which is key to encouraging regional economic activity.”

Republic of Somaliland Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Dr. Saad Al Shire said: “Developing a free zone will complement the growth of Berbera Port, enabling it to become a gateway for trade to the region and the whole of Africa. It will also generate jobs for the local population and encourage small and medium-sized companies in the area to locate their operations in an environment conducive to trade. Our partnership with DP World is a model that we are keen to develop and for the benefit of all.”

The free zone will target a wide range of businesses including warehousing, logistics, traders, manufacturers and other related businesses.

The project is also modelled on DP World’s Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) in Dubai and aims to attract investments, encourage trade, create new jobs and position Berbera as a gateway port for the region.

We're gonna have to put up with this for the next 30yrs until the ext generation return to fix this mess that the elders have created. Honestly the greatest charity you can give is to teach these ppl politics so they can stop giving away their assets for free.

Djibouti before DP world was a dusty back water...in other words DP world led the way for Djibouti's.

Somaliland played a very good game of political and economic chess. This is a 30 year agreement: between Berbera port authority, dp world and Ethiopia

1. The port import and export capacity will increase 20 times what it is today
2. Modern highways linking Berbera with Ethiopia and distribution hubs inside Ethiopia for south Sudan etc
3. Guaranteed 40% of all Ethiopian exports and imports: taxed at the Somaliland border increase revenue flow: at least 60% increase in earnings.
4. Military base: strategic security partnership, investment in education, water, healthcare
5. New airport and hotels in berbera
6. Free trade zone: i.e. manufacturing zone for foreign companies

This deal will transform Somaliland and turn into a regional economic power: now you understand why Djibouti and Somalia both crying....

Thier worst nightmare just became reality...

It doesn't stop there: if this is successful...

More ports will be developed: more countries will establish military bases ....more money will be generated.

Somaliland is gone for good...this is proof of that.....

Bye bye mother&£-£-_

Hopefully, we can work together with Somalia as partners with mutual interest in increasing security, trade etc.

After we build up our country if by then those disgusting al shabab still not dealt with we could do a joint military missions on dealing with al shabab..

In all honesty Somalia is dead...it's dead because it's people have no concept of reality. They live in a parallel universe.

God helps those who help themselves. No nationalism, no sharaf, they are more concerned about destroying Somaliland then African soldiers gang raping their women in their capital...they live in destitute poverty and can't pay their soldiers but will boast about having high GDP....

No diig left in these people saxib....

It's best to let nature take its natural course...

Somalia is dead...only difference is we know it and they dont, 20 years from now captain akuna matata will still be raping xalimo and her leaders will be like....

" Somaliland can't sign anymore deals with the rest of the world"

Acudubilah....

Would've praised the deal if it wasn't for the military base.

I can even accept the 19% given to Ethiopia since they'll be your biggest customer.

However letting Somalia's enemies setup military bases is like selling out your people.

Feels just like how Somali tribes joined with the Brits and Italians to fight against Somali freedom fighters. :farole:

What a load of nonsense: turkey has three military bases in Somalia, owns the port and airport along with a military academy.

No one asked us: (using Somalian logic)

What's the difference between UAE the country that pays your wages with turkey ????

These people waa munafiqeen

That makes it compete with uae ports ... haha ofcourse they won't do shiiit ! As soon as uae build the military base and bomb yemen. They will invested a view dollars on the old politicians and somaliland public cant do shiit about it after! Just like yemen and djoubity.

Anywase my southern brothers allow these guys we tried to save them from themself but lets instead build our southern ports and laugh when they"go to local somaliland courts" in 10 years time like djoubity.
