Also correction: I wrote 646 but I consulted my chronology and I was wrong the Ummayads took over in 696 according to Xamar tradition, not 646. Typo.
The Sassanid Empire was gone by 651. The period between when Himyar was conquered by Persia in 575 and when the Ummayad Caliphate took over in 696 is kind of mysterious. Who ruled? Did a short lived local dynasty establish a little kingdom there? It's not all that long a period of time, 120 years or so, but so many questions!
