Here he is telling a foreign government of his desire to sign a treaty as an autonomous region of Somalia.

You read the book I'm surprised western boy anyway I assume that was part of the early negotiations but honestly the average lander is more extremist and determined about somaliland then the leaders if they only know what their politicians say behind close doors diinta somaliland bari hori aya laga sari laha.

This.
People underestimate the youth, who are probably around 60% of SL population.
Egal was politician and visionary, if he was sincere of SL being independent or not is not the case today.
You have a whole generation that know nothing but Somaliland, to them Somalia is distant memory.
Power lies within the youth, it was never about the politicians.

I'm talking about Egal only. Not the locals.

He indicated support for unification talks in 1999, 8 years after separation.

It says he signed it to have mines removed becuz somaliland couldn't sign it's own name...how did you miss that?

Ina cigaal was somalinimo pro but not union, he even refused to have talks with us.

He didn't sign it. He wasn't able to. You don't need to sign a mines treaty to remove mines. He mentioned he wanted to sign it as an autonomous region of Somalia

And according to that excerpt above, he was open to unification talks in 1999.

How? It says he "reportedly indicated" reportedly is synonymous with allegedly. There's no actual quote verbatim of him saying that in speech or writing or else we would've opened talks with him long ago

You don't need verbatim. It is reportedly indicated he was down for unification talks.

Reportedly indicated is an allegation, not legitimate proof. Therefore your theory of him supporting reunification is flawed. Like I said we would've opened dialogue with somaliland long ago if that were true

What does that have to do with your topic? You clearly misquoted and misunderstood your initial post, don't let it happen again:heh:

Both insincere and a gambler, gambling in Las Vegas minutes before the coup d'etat. Caught the dude off guard:chrisfreshhah:
