This project is huge and will connect a fishery town Eyl to Garowe, distance is 230 km. Hopefully it will give Puntlands fishery industry a much needed boost by connecting coastal towns to the mainland.

It depends if they simply want to link Eyl to the main road, if they want to link Eyl to Garowe using the channel of the Nugaal seasonal river or if they want a straight link through the mountains. I would hate it if they built the mountain route because its upkeep costs would be very high.
They already paved the runway :damn:

Galkacyo airport was paved when Tigey was governor. It was done by local engineers. They will probably tear it up though.

@Boqor Quark Boqor Cisman they are building the airport in the same place as the old one!

Do you know the budget of the construction?

Remember when Farole's admin claimed they were going to build a new building for the parliament. They showed everyone beautiful images of what it was going to look like and when it was completed, it looked terrible! So far, Gaas has trumped Farole in that aspect. The development projects his admin has overseen actually look decent.

But Farole handled the flooding disaster better than the way Gaas is handling the drought.

Conflicted emotions on these men. :cosbyhmm:

At 4:34 is the only time Gaas talked about funding

The way I understand is that China gets awarded twice. For example, the bosaso airport was paid by Italy however PL rewarded the construction to CCECC, so the chinese were paid with the aid money from Italy. The PL government also pays them in minerals and natural resources and it allows them to search for other natural resources. They are getting one hell of a deal. But then again, CCECC is a big player that contructed the railway that basically connected the entire East Africa. You have to give them a special bone or else they wont be interested to pave a runway or a small 270 km road.

Minerals and exploration?? Puntland is getting robbed. Unless they cut Gaas and his friends fat checks.
They should be building roads all over Puntland. I wish we had investigative journalists who could give us more insight on what's going on with these deals. That's what our "parliament" should be doing anyway. I'm going to hunt my MP down. :wtfdis:

True. Politically speaking faroole is far ahead of anyone else, Gaas is leading in overseeing development projects. Faroole handled the 2011 droughts better than Gaas too, and the 2011 was worse than the current one.

This is why we need a team of capable cabinet that can compensate each other, instead of the current one man show.

I am all for giving the Chinese mineral rights. No one has done more for Puntland's infrastructure than China. If they want first dips on oil or tin or whatever, it is well within their rights. We get a share of any minerals found in Puntland anyway.

The window of opportunity in getting Puntland's oil out of the ground is fast closing, the world is starting to shift out of oil. We may never get anything for it if we don't start extracting it in the next decade. If the Chinese want to help us with that, I welcome them with open arms.

We can't have a decent cabinet as long as a bunch of odayaal lobby for their clan to be represented instead of the best person for the job.
I can't wait for multi-party elections to start.

That's fine but we should have lobbied to get more development projects out of them.
I don't trust these politicians, I wouldn't be surprised if they got compensated with cash instead of development projects.

That's what I think as well. To prove their serious intentions, CCECC will also open an office in Garowe in the near future.

Interesting long article about Puntland and CCECC collaboration.
