Walaal, it is not so ridiculous, let us ask: what are the origins of the names Europe, Africa etc? Do you know? This sounds ridiculous, most Somalis historically didn’t speak Arabic so why would our ethnic name be derived from it? How hard is it to believe it has Cushitic origins? Everyone looks for outside influence on Somalis when it could’ve just been native.
That was one theory, and Pro. Ghandi presented another. I read in my GCSE days in an old Arabic book in Yemen, there used to be a King called Zumali (Somali), who used to govern the Horn after which his people had been named.I thought Somali name came from the word soo maal in af Somali and it means basically go and milk the goat or the camel.
Please do.I will soon have a topic that will explain to you the true meaning of the word “ soomaal ” .
