1. Issak were agitating for independence way before 1988. As early as the 1960s, some Issaks already wanted to break off. Their desire to break off primarily stems from an inflated sense of their own importance and disillusionment with what they see as too small of a piece of Somalia's political pie

2. Puntland came about because of the collapse of the central government and the MJ's realization that Somalia would remain broken for a long time. Their control of an economically viable port in Bossaso (which Siad Barre built for them brand new), and their concentration in one particular region (however desolate and uninteresting except for the port) allowed them to form a somewhat effective political entity (it's dysfunctional compared to other clan-based entities though, like Somaliland. You never hear about Somaliland troops attacking their own parliament over lack of pay)

3. Siad Barre was only able to lead a counterattack onto Mogadishu after the rebels took over only because those hawyie rebels decided to slaughter innocent daroods while welcoming the highest officials and regime cronies of barre of their own clan into their ranks. This made many daroods who were previously hostile to him, including many members of his MX clan, suddenly join ranks with him. Also, the vast bulk of Mogadishu's destruction took place during the intra-hawyie fighting between Ali Mahdi and Caydiid, not during the battle with the Darood forces which took place in the hinterlands. Even Hawyies acknowledge their primary role in destroying "their" city

4. MX have contributed a lot to Somalia, including the script and a lot of influential people, not least of all the longest-serving president, the first Somali pilots, etc. I'm not sure why you're directing derogatory remarks toward one of Somalia's most prestigious clans.

Bosaso port was not built because of Siad Barres generosity out of his pocket and heart. The Italians paid for it and it was forced by the ssdf rebellion it was one of the conditions that led to the disarming of ssdf..
