Or Soviet-style, social housing?

I was an Architecture fan back then and despite my former disdain for the Soviets,
I now admire them for what they have built for their people.

Small, yet affordable apartment flats for every soviet family.

I don't have an answer for that, but houses that take a region's history into context generally look x10 better. What might look nice in the Switzerland would probably look odd/out of place in S.Korea.

Agreed, but that style of architecture is still fucking dehumanizing and hideous

Honestly he's not wrong, they're horrible and I kind of get why Russians are so suicidal. Better off copying the commie blocks in London, at least they look like they have some sort of life in them.

Those strange names reminds me of homosexual French politicians running about the Algiers in the 60's for little Maghrebi boys. Saxiib I see a commie block; I see a Labour hot-spot. Simple as.


Jokes aside there's a point where human need is more important than beauty. Those drab blocks were life saving for the working class though the living conditions were less than ideal considering how cramped it was and it also comes with a whole set of social problems. Even then its efficiency is absolutely revolutionary and unparalleled, nothing comes close even to this day.

Haussamnian houses are beautiful.
But they cost a crapload of money to build and maintain them.

Thats more to do with being broke , rather than a choice.

Haussamnian houses are beautiful.
But they cost a crapload of money to build and maintain them.

The maintenance is a ball-ache but period houses retain their value, might be due to the cost of the materials. New-builds are generally cheaper even in the same location. People tend to look after beautiful things, whereas "new" builds get torn down all the time

Yours truly believes that Somalia should use its old city architecture (those white washed and Coral stone homes/towers). It looks stunning in a coastal setting.
