HARGEISA- A Chinese-owned private firm, BGP has signed a contract with Somaliland government to explore oil in Sanaag and Sahil regions. The Energy & Mineral Minister, Hon. Jama Mahmud Egal has inked the deal with BGP to conduct oil exploration by February 2018. The Chinese-owned firm will launch the oil search in a block of 700 km according to a press statement. The minister of energy, Hon. Jama expressed his optimism that the oil exploration will be beneficial to Somaliland. The previous Silanyo administration signed a deal with UAE based RAK GAS which has hired this firm to conduct the oil search. Hon. Jama, the minister has urged Sanaag and Sahil residents to collaborate with the firm staffers that are about to carry out oil search.
