Puntland Mideeye iyo Sinnaan iyo Cadaalad parties have joined together

It's almost impossible to get 51% of the votes when you are competing with 8 other parties, Kaah got most of the votes (49%, 37% and 35.6% in the 3 cities) so I wouldn't classify that as a loss.

its a loss. because 2 out of the 3 districts Deni has no say on the new maamul. the other eyl, deni needs to form an alliance to be the majority and build the new maamul.

all in all deni before the election could name and fire the DC and mayors of qardho and ufeyn today he cannot.

In proportional, coalition based systems, the biggest party should be given the first chance to form a coalition. If they can’t form a majority coalition, then the other parties will get the chance to work together. They immediately excluded the biggest party on results night. Mideeye and cadalad iyo Sinaan formed too soon coalition, I’m sure they’ll fall apart even sooner.

Fun times ahead

How could Deni lose when he wasn’t even participating in this election? If you had been following the election you would know Eyl should have been a Horseed stronghold and Qardho Mideeye majority. Asad and Jebiye’s alliance in Ufayn won’t work as their representatives do not trust each other.

From the Ufayn debate;

It was last minute campaigning that flipped districts in Kaah’s favor. Kaah gained majority of the seats in every district and the local elections will continue next year where Kaah and Mideeye are the only two out of the top four political parties to have support outside of Bari&Nugaal.

Kaah, Mideeye, Horseed etc this is a win for Puntland.

You could say that about Asad as well. They will both outlast Farmaajo though so…:manny:

Exactly. I’m happy to see young people, women, idps, persons with disabilities etc all get a chance to participate in the electoral process. It was a great day and more to come next year Insha Allah.

When will the major cities like Galkacyo and Garowe and Bosaso do their elections?

Well these are councils, there job is to focus on garbage collection, city planning, fire and public safety, and how they can develop their districts. they weren't chosen to bicker over politics, I know SINCAD candidate for Qardho mayor Dr Xuseen muuse nuux (I heard he was chosen by the 2 parties) he is a very capable guy.
The votes each party gets also matter since they will determine the 3 parties that will be choosing candidates for the next parliament and president elections, and It's too early to judge which 3 parties will cross the finish line.

@cow I think Puntland local election is using the 'cod-dheeri' system which is known as first past the post. That mean whoever won the election regardless if they secured 51% is going to be mayor because they are no 1 preferred party.

Kaah is Mayor, but has minority control in the council due to the coalition between mideeye n cadalaad and sinan. That's parliamentarian system
