I think the Dominicans fought the Haitians for independence from Haiti and I think the Haitians were extremely brutal in how they fought and the Dominicans remember.... I have seen this used in defense of Trujillo...... Trujillo if I understand correctly, killed a ton of Haitians in the 30's who were trying to cross into the Dominican Republic...... so there is a long history as I understand it of conflict between them and the Haitians
