Real priority to think regarding about ”somali hate”

What has truly changed?
Somalia was known as a failed state, still is (even though it has improved noticeably). Our country aint doing good at all but its improving very slowly.

Now, what are we slandered about that we weren’t slandered from before? Big foreheads? Looks? Ok thats kinda new doesn’t differ from big forehead jokes. This is mainly from POCs.

Vast majority of the world doesn’t really know us like that. People still associate us with pirates. Which lets be fair, its not that bad. Outlaws are idolised. I have seen multiple reels from people joking about joining somali pirates or the famous somali pirate stock exchange.

We get hate from racist cadaans and from non-whites who just throw forehead or pirate disses.

Only serious thing is racist rhetoric from white folks. We are being used as a scapegoat. They were racist before but nowadays, its different. Multiple times we have been accused of heinous crimes that weren’t done by us. One time is a mistake, 2nd time is slander and from 3rd time onwards its a deliberate campaign. Remember the killing of a baby/child by non-somali in Bolton UK which was continuosly pinned on us even though the culprit was already caught. Gaalada are trying to associate with the worst of the worst. Very deliberate.

Why us though? As many have already stated, we are madow and very visibly muslim. Even though we come from a dangerous muslim country, its not working. Most people cadaans included know us as pirates. Someone is trying to change that. Tom Hanks and Barkhad Abdi really came in clutch if we think about it. People don’t even really associate us with Black hawk down anymore like that.

Disclaimer, Im not saying to ignore slander from POCs. The thing is, they don’t have power. Im saying at the moment, outside of SSPOT people haven’t really noticed what cadaans are trying to do. Thats should be priority #1. We can deal with POCs.

@Idilinaa highlighted that indian hate became huge due to their actions in real life. People noticed indians would only hire their own if they got into positions of power. This phenomenon has been noticed all over anglosphere by all non-indians. In Canada, indians have been very upfront about their cunsurnimo, openly stating for example, to only rent to non-indians.

In comparison, its different regarding us. Vast majority of people who have met us and truly interacted with us have only positive things to say. Practically all muslim ethnic groups here in the west have only positive things to say about us. Also gaalada too.

Indian hate really kicked off due to their beefs with cadaans, madows and muslims. Everybody ganged upon them.

Our thing is different even though you see many folks hating. But its not personal to them. Thats why I believe in due time slander from POCs will wither. There isn’t nothing that we haven’t done to them. Real life, we aint victims and we don’t victimise others. You guys might think that trolls have caused hate which is true but their actions are in the grand scheme of things neglible.

They do this because we are politically weak, whole sea of madows and East Africans in MN for example but we’re the face of Minnesota and thus all criminality from them is also ours.

years ago there was this clip of four madows, all with very Somali names like duqavious, quashawn and such jumping an old white man and it went super viral on MAGA twitter. The next year ilhan omar is championing their cause alongside the BLM xalimo army while they loot the city and take a wild guess whose fault it all is.

People are ing from getting hate from people that do hate for a living and then pretend it is the average Joe.

People are ing about getting hate from people that, peep this -- do hate for a living -- then spin it like it is the views of the average person, or push the hyperbole that it is getting normalized with real-time effect. Mind you, the hating derives from inconsequential folks that would never say shit in real life. So to me, it's a waste of energy. All the other nonsense of how it might affect this that or the other is exaggerated and hysteric engagement.

People that are not on the internet 24/7 don't even know about this. This shit only circulates among people glued on certain spaces. Then they are surprised to see dodo and stink when they keep frequenting the only few public toilets that have the worst hygiene. Tell me if that is not stupid. At least be aware most of the negativity you see is because of clusters of algorithms that repeat the same magnified bullcrap. It's tailored content for you, not for the rest of us that maintains a balance in where we frequent on the internet (and how we use it), and certainly not for the broader world.

On the other side, forehead and other stereotypes have existed since forever but they were never brought up in my life, on top of that, every group has stereotypes in real life. Do they affect your day-to-day? No way. On top of this, anyone who claims they hear forehead jokes in real life often is capping, lol. On top of that, you roast back if they do. It's an easy lunch.

You're setting yourself up for failure if you want to be liked by the few people set on hating you. Focus on yourself and be aware that 98% don't care at all about this little drama.

One thing Somalis who think our ethnic group is declining because of the bloated noise have in common is that they care too much about what ajnabis think. One good comment and their day brightens a bit better. One racist one and their day turns a bit dimmer. Stop trying to look for validation from other groups and be content. If someone lies about Somalis, be satisfied in knowing that they're lying. Sometimes it is that simple. You can't win them all. Are you an ethno-narcissist or some shit? Get over yourself.:ftw9nwa:

If you have the option to educate someone, do it, but don't exert yourself beyond normal or try to do the impossible. This should be done in a reasonable way where you can have some impact after assessing the situation. However, end it if you see any signs of immaturity. Don't seek out hate and engage with it. You're wasting time and energy, one can call it pathetic even. Often these internet haters are part-time trolls who just want to get a rise out of good people. Arguing with them is a loss. They're not genuine in what they say so educating them is already a sucker attempt.

There is a healthy balance between the bums who pretend the haters mean well and internalize the issue as exclusively Somali-caused, like the self-hating fools they are; on the other isle, you have people seeing despair and the downfall of an ethnic group because some dweebs on the internet said something mean. Get your shit together, guys. It has been the same shit on this forum for years and the discourse needs to change.

duqavious and quashawn aren't somali names

Explain Elon Musk then.
Elon Musk is one guy who funnels re-tweets from the people I mentioned at most. We're talking about the broader picture. All in all, that guy is obsessed with every controversial topic, and Somalis are not the first or tenth on that list, so let's not needlessly center ourselves in that conversation as if he has an exclusive thing for us when it is just as much any other Muslim group.

There is nothing Elon Musk ever did that affected you or me. And by the way, Elon is an anomaly. We don't use strange exceptions to the rules. Elon is the same as if a politician has an opinion. This is a different ballgame and deviates from this discussion. When it comes to public figures, one needs to see it differently and potentially require other measures. You cannot conflate the central component of this topic issue with that.

Somalia hasn't been known as a failed state since 2015.

Piracy similarly a thing of the past, stopped virtually in 2013, so they are mostly repeating old news. I doesn't really bother Somalis when others bring it up because they know the back story to it, it began as fishermen defending themselves.

Somalia is actually doing better than it did 5 years ago. Private sector economy had grown immensely and revitalized, a housing/construction boom, many business people and educated professionals/intellectuals are returning to Somalia.

Our business enclaves abroad and diaspora community are flourishing as well, higher civic participation, increase in educational attainments, employment and increase in purchasing of homes.

In the macro picture and in the socio-economic sense Somalis are doing better on every metric.

All of this that i highlighted and have shared throughout this forum shows is how we been throughout the past 30 years since the old regime collapsed, unaffected by hate and bad media publicity and kept on trying to progress ourselves and our community.

With that said these threads you and others have been churning out are a bit revealing, because its yall trying hard to make Somalis care about it and bring all the ''negative'' stuff to our attention.

As as if ya''ll are trying to inflict this ''hate'' ya'll keep blabbering about and trying to foreshadow all the bad things that are going to happen to us as a result of it and force Somalis to feel down about themselves or their situation. That's what seems to be the goal of these threads, it's obvious.

If it was something that was going to work it would have happen a long time ago. The biggest cultural characteristic of Somalis is how prideful we are and how ressilient we are all and how we stick up for one another. Thats why it's never effective.

Thats what bothers yall and others the most. No matter what anyone says about us and how bad our situation get, we continue to keep our head high and press forward and not comprimise who we are wether our religion or our Somali identity. Thats what people find so irritating and it manifests into hate. We are an object of frustration to people.

"any other muslim group"

has he said anything, or re-tweeted negative things about the emiratis? turks? saudis? curious.

???? the richest and one of the most powerful men in the world, even if he was the sole believer it would still carry weight. his views and philosophies carry real world importance undoubtedly. especially when he's on board with a faction that is fixated on minnesotas "demographics".

i bring elon up because I keep hearing this trite "da internet doesnt matter broo its real" argument regarding this topic. where have you been in the past 15 years? you cannot bury your head in the sand anymore, you see the average normie glued to his screen 10 hours a day yet you think what propagated there doesn't affect his world view? it's not 2004, the internet and what's disseminated on it absolutely matters, to the point where the vice president elect is following open WS accounts on elon's X. it is a very outdated mindset to dismiss certain things as "chronically online" when pretty much everyone is chronically online in 2024.

the random anon nobody you have in your head, stops being a random nobody in the online hyperreality. you see a tiktok or ig reel insinuating that we're the lowest people and its got 500k likes, that's 500k real people, maybe even your co-workers, classmates, your boss. even if its a bum saying it, real people are his audience.

I'm not here to waste time arguing with you. I was stating facts, take it how you like it. I don't care.

This recent trend of randoms dunking on Somalis reminds me of 2020 when asians were getting crazy amount of hate because of covid, both from cadaans and POCs

the problem here is that nothing happened to trigger it, just out of nowhere a few accounts making posts blew up on tiktok and twitter blew up. remember that twitter post with squidward that got 250k likes? the account had literally 0 followers before making that. Same with on tiktok, random accounts make their first post against somalis and it gets 1 mil views out of nowhere

call me schizo, but I genuinely believe this is manufactured. The people interacting with these posts are real, but I believe they're being artificially boosted on social media, tiktok especially. Perhaps some kind of US government program to see how they can manipulate algorithms to start hate against a group of people, to sway public opinion on them. I can imagine this being used in preparation for a war against a country

This trend is exclusively amongst Gen-Z in the anglosphere, particularly americans, many of whom come from states where there is close to zero Somalis. No such trend is on french, spanish, arabic, german, swedish social media

This wont cause any problems where most Somalis are, because in places like Minnesota, Colombus, Toronto, etc we have a monopoly on gang activity. So nobody will do shit to Somalis IRL like they did with Asians in 2020. But I'm worried for Somali kids who live in areas where there are no other somalis because shit will get tough for them, they will probably get bullied the same way west africans got bullied during ebola, or how asians got bullied during covid

Somalis can still be targetted in cities where there's a lot of Somalis. I know of cases where a somali kid was bullied by jamaican and cadaan kids in school and the school had mostly somali, they also bullied another somali kid and other cases. The fact is these viral embarassing content about somalis e.g big forehead, ugly, alien etc can easily brianwash young folks to see us as unhumane who are belittled by everyone and don't believe what they're doing is bad since they see everyone else mocking us. social media is conditioning people in normalising racism.

Ask yourselves why other larger African diaspora communities aren't targeted like Somalis and you'll find your answer.

The rise of Trump, brexit and far right rhetoric definitely has an impact on experiences the ground in places like the UK. Somalis have been violently targeted after incidents such as the Lee Rigby killing ( Somali bravenese centre was burned to the ground). As you saw with the riots over the summer, Twitter can have a demonstrable effect on individuals mobilising themselves over internet rumours leading to attacks on Muslims/migrants etc.

Islamophobic and racist attacks against Somalis has been on the rise over the past ten years. Elderly ladies, niqab and hijabis or Somalis who live in isolated council estates are more likely to fall victim to this. Elon Musks focus’ hyper focus on the Somali community and people like Tommy Robinson spreading lies definitely trickles down to hit vulnerable Somali Muslims going about their business.
