What he he said before in a press conference if my memory serves me right, was that Somali economy lost a lot growth potential because of the political instability and how we was robbed. Which is true.
Somalia was never a failed state. Those other countries haven't had foreign driven proxy wars and interventions/invasions to topple a government and destabilize it.
Despite that Somalia's has managed to pick itself up to move forward. Mogadishu itself is becoming a fast growing commercial and real estate hub and boasts East Africa's Nr. 1 university. Somalia has progressed so much on every metric.
And they aren't doing better than us in the grander scheme of things. They are dirt poor countries with shitty infrastructure , lack of education, health care etc and google Zimbabwe, Egyptian capital cities , a good majority live in dirty slums.
People crap on Somalia for it's political instability but what has stability done for those countries you have mentioned? They just live in sustained poverty and do very little to improve their citizens lives.

When i went there back in 2013 it was a such culture shock. Unless your family is connected to the military you are living a destitute life in Egypt with no real social safety or upward mobility.
People would pride themselves of having a dad in the military because they are basically untouchable and privileged. You would see kids saying ''Don't mess with him his dad works in the military'' or ''Ask X for help his dad is in the military''
It's either that or having a western passport, you will either get scammed out of your money or treated like royalty.
The military controls everything and oppresses the average civilian. People in Egypt also act incredibly indifferent to eachother. They live in a mansion or apartment and right outside of it is a family of beggars in a tent and they don't do much to help them.
