Reminder: Walk Towards Your Rizq, But Hurry Towards the Dhikr of Allah

We are all out here trying to make a living, hustle for our rizq (sustenance), and secure our future. But Allah reminds us in the Qur’an, in Surah Al-Mulk:

“It is He who made the earth tame for you – so walk among its slopes and eat of His provision – and to Him is the resurrection.” (Quran, 67:15)

Basically, Allah has made this world easy for us. He gave us everything we need to survive – the earth, the food, the resources. We’re supposed to walk through it, seek out our sustenance, and enjoy what He’s provided. But here’s the catch: It’s all from Allah. Our rizq is already written, and we don’t have to stress about it too much. Yes, work hard, but remember that it’s Allah who decides how and when it comes.

Now, while we’re focused on making a living, Allah tells us not to forget what really matters – the dhikr (remembrance) of Allah. Allah says in Surah Al-Jumu'ah:

“So when the prayer is finished, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed.” (Quran, 62:10)

This is huge. Allah is saying, go out, work for your rizq, but don’t let that stop you from remembering Him. Dhikr isn’t something we should delay or push aside. It should be a part of our daily routine, even while we’re working, studying, or doing whatever it is that’s taking up our time.

And then, there’s this important verse in Surah Al-Jumu'ah where Allah says:

“O you who have believed, when the call to prayer is heard on the day of Jumu'ah, then hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew.” (Quran, 62:9)

Hasten to the dhikr of Allah! It’s more important than anything we’re doing – even if it’s work or trade. Allah is telling us, don’t put off remembering Him. When we rush to make dhikr a priority, that’s when we truly succeed. It’s when we make time for Allah, no matter what we’re doing, that we feel peace in our hearts and barakah (blessings) in everything we do.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said:

“Shall I not tell you of the best of your deeds, the most purifying to your Lord, the best for you to occupy yourselves with, and that which is better for you than spending gold and silver, and that which is better for you than meeting your enemy and striking their necks (in Jihad)? They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'The remembrance of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.'” (Tirmidhi)

Think about that for a second. Dhikr is better than wealth, better than any struggle or effort you can imagine. It purifies the heart and brings you closer to Allah. When you make dhikr a priority, it changes everything. It makes all the effort you put into your rizq and your daily life more meaningful.

So, here’s the key takeaway:

  • Walk towards your rizq, but don’t get caught up in it so much that you forget where it comes from. Trust that Allah will provide, and keep working hard.
  • Hurry towards the dhikr of Allah. It’s the one thing that gives peace to your heart, success in everything you do, and brings you closer to Allah in ways nothing else can.

May Allah make it easy for us to balance our worldly pursuits with His remembrance, and may He bless our efforts with peace, barakah, and His mercy. Ameen.
