Reminder: We Are Slaves to Allah – Live Like a Slave

Just a quick reminder to keep things in perspective: we’re all slaves to Allah. It’s a simple but powerful truth that we can’t forget.

  • We Belong to Allah: Everything we have—our time, our health, our wealth—it all belongs to Allah. He gave it to us, and it’s up to us to use it in His way. Allah says in the Qur'an:
"Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish the prayer for My remembrance." (Taha 20:14)
Remember, we’re not free to just do whatever we want. We’re here to serve Allah.
  • True Freedom is in Submission: A lot of people think freedom means doing whatever you want, but in Islam, true freedom comes from submitting to Allah. When you submit to Him, you’re free from being controlled by your desires and worldly distractions. Ibn Taymiyyah said, "The only true freedom is being free from desires that oppose Allah’s commands." That’s the kind of freedom that brings peace.
  • Every Moment is Service: Life is all about serving Allah, whether we’re working, praying, eating, or chilling. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The most beloved deeds to Allah are the most consistent, even if they are small.” (Sahih Bukhari)
Every little thing we do can be an act of worship if we do it with the right intention—to please Allah.
  • Our Purpose is Obedience: As slaves to Allah, our main purpose is to worship Him with everything we do. Ibn Qayyim said: "Worship is to obey Allah in everything and in every way." This means even when things get tough, we trust it’s a test from Allah, and we keep going with patience.
  • Depend on Allah’s Mercy: As His slaves, we’re always in need of Allah’s mercy. We can’t stand on our own, and we shouldn’t think we can. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The best of you are those who are humble, who are slaves of Allah, and don’t boast of their deeds.”
  • Live Like a Slave: When you live as a slave to Allah, you’re constantly focused on obeying Him. Don’t get caught up in worldly distractions. The goal is to serve Him in everything you do. Ibn Uthaymeen said: "A true slave knows his place before his Master and acts in accordance with that."
That’s how we should aim to live—knowing that everything we have and everything we do is for Allah. It’s not about status, money, or anything else. It’s about pleasing Him.

Remember, you’re a slave to Allah, and every action, no matter how small, is an opportunity to serve Him. Keep your focus on the akhirah, and let’s live like true slaves, obeying and submitting to Allah in everything we do.

May Allah make us all true slaves of Him, and may He grant us success in this life and the next. Ameen.
