I used to be an Introvert back in Highschool but I suddenly morphed into an semi-Extrovert, honestly If you are an introvert it puts you at a disadvantage when you are trying to network with other people and when you are at a job interview and they ask you tell yourself about us. Being able to communicate effectively and not being shy will go long ways..

Yea but there's a difference between being shy and being introverted. Shy people are not necessarily introverted, they're just scared to speak because of what others may say/being insecure about themselves, while an introverted person can handle themselves at job interviews etc, they just prefer to not hang around large crowds.

Define loud? Like loud when they come into the bus in the morning and they yelling like adoons? No, I haven't seen that from Somalis. But, go to any Somali mall and you have the 20 year old Somali female fobs that are loud as f*ck.

"Na kaalay" and you look back and you don't see anyone, then you see a purple jilbaab from a mile away :deadosama:

Introversion vs extroversion refers to where people get their energy from. Being introverted doesn't mean being shy or unable to communicate.

I'm actually pretty good at interviews, with networking it's also not about the # of people you can converse with but also quality and making meaningful connections that's why alot of career experts see going for "informational interviews" as more fruitful then larger networking events.

Somalis are a nomadic people who live in a sparsely populated landmass. This means we have to yell out to people from a distance when we see them and possibly hold a convo despite them being like 50 metres away lol. Majority of Somalis are only one or two generations removed from nomadic life, so the yelling still continues in Somali urban centres and has even followed us here to the West lol. This is my theory as to why we're loud.

Interesting, in addition to volume I find alot of Somali people to be very open about their lives, were not as secretive as other groups - where would you guess that comes from ?

Very interesting.. Networking is tricky, Information sessions does seem to accomplish more than large networking events which is just a social gathering, to be honest I overcame my Introvert personality after my trip to Somalia, the constant conversations I had just made me more of a talkative person and now I converse a lot and am comfortable being part of a large crowd.

I talk a lot. Maybe too much. Even though I like my space and to be alone sometimes.

Extrovert doesn't have to mean you're loud. Being loud is just bad behavior imo.

I was trying to avoid using introvert/extrovert though their big buzz words, I feel like there's alot of misunderstanding.

I'm a chatterbox I just don't mingle a lot. I can go weeks being on my own before I need to go to out with people. But when one am with others best believe I ain't shutting up.

It's not in me and most of my friends split into insanely quiet or loud and abrasive.

Ironically most quiet people I know can't stand solitude. They won't talk but they go insane not being around others. Never understood this dynamic.

U should qualify that statement by saying it's bad behaviour among Westerners.
What makes you say that :cosbyhmm:
Loudness being disruptive is common observation. Not everything is Western.

I see Inquisitive is rubbing off on you.

It's not a problem. It's safe to say that if anyone is typically loud in public they're more likely to be an extrovert than an introvert.

I don't think even Somalis view loudness the same way. Some families louder than others or is it just me? It's the same thing with levels of nadafa.

I'm talkative when among good circle of friends, but only when I know it is entertaining and elevating everyone's spirit. I can't stand people who talk for the sake of talking. They suck the energy out of me.
