Revisiting: The Bevin Plan for Somali lands, 1897 => 1946

Also, the Rahwain Party was refusing to unite. They were saying that we are different from the rest of the Somalis, and also other Somalis wanted Ethiopia to return to the galbeed
Only a few Somalis were educated and they were trying to make all Somali lands be under one colonial authority, but tribalism played a role in the failure of this.
HDM were right for that , majority of Southerners had the same mindset

Dr A/Qawi discusses the rationale for the Brits to enter the Anglo-Ethiopia Treaty of 1897 re: Menelik-Rodd agreement: Preempt Menelik's support for the Mahdist revolt in the Sudan.

The agreements of 1884 and 1886 between the British and local Somalis should have rendered the subsequent Anglo-Ethiopia treat of 1897 null and void, but the Brits negotiated away the rights and lands of natives. So much for the Protectorate.

Dr A/Qawi argues the case from a legal standpoint.

Postscript:

More the reason European Christians would never accept Greater So in the Horn, and forever prop up Christian Ethiopia.

In I907 Menelik became paralysed and nominated Lijj Yassu as his successor. Ras Makonnen of Harar died in I906 and Menelik in I9I3. The whole situation in Abyssinia was changed when Lijj Yassu, who had become Emperor in I909, subsequently became a Muslim and in I9I6 officially made Abyssinia dependent upon Turkey in religious matters. Instead of oppressing the Somalis and other Muslims, as his Christian predecessor had done, he sent out from Harar a summons to the Somalis to join in a holy war against the Christians. Lijj Yassu also sent rifles and ammunition to Muhammad Abdullah Hassa

Lijj Yassu was deposed in I9I7, after making the situation thoroughly confusing to the Somalis, who for a few years had found the Abyssinians their friends rather than their enemies. Menelik's daughter, Zawdita, was made Empress with Ras Tafari as Regent and heir; he became Emperor Haile Selassie in I930.

Nothing to do with pride don't know how you came to that conclusion
wdym? brother did you not read? some clans opposed this to happen and thus played a part in our eternal instability. (and yes clans are prideful and haughty people you cannot deny that)

You mean him saying Rahanweyn ( HDM) party refused to unite means they did it out of pride? They did it for their own benefit to safeguard their lands and language, unfortunately it failed

ohh the ones that speak af-maay? ok I understand but still it would be unlikely they would lose their land and they are capable of preserving their dialect no problem.

Yes, nope it was likely as hawiyes and daroods were plotting on it. It's a language with multiple dialects, 100 years ago you would rarely hear maxatiri in Maay areas ie dooy and dhoobey that's not the case now that shows it hasn't been preserved

Hypothetically, if the Bevin plan did come to pass and Somaliweyn was accomplished, it would still have been an uphill battle to stop qablists from ruining the country anyways
