Russia plans to stamp out terrorism in Somalia

I agree in that we need a unified army, but only Somalis can defeat Al Shabab effectively and we can't do so with the arms embargo in place.

Weapons can't replace reconciliation.

You don't need to throw modern weapons to a circle of troops who don't trust each other and have love for their nation.

They did it in Syria so why not?

Syria has very defined battle fronts, easier to identify and engage. AS on the other hand are few in numbers, stealthy, and hide amongst the population. Even if Russia were to be deployed, they would have to have a specialized forces on the grounded conducting seek and destroy missions. AS can handle small teams of special forces, just as the American navy seals who tries and got chased and the French who were gunned down trying to engage them.

Russia is not needed. AS is a Somali problem. They require local solution

Russia is extremely competent and sophisticated. They can easily handle it if they choose to. The guys have an agent to run the US federal government.

Yh but Seriously are you telling me we can't handle a max. 5,000 ill armed, trained fanatics roaming around the Country side. It is a shame. We might as well give up and mail it in.

We definitely can deal with it on our own. It takes serious will power and competent people, neither of which are on hand at the moment.
