Russians are using a centuries old tactic fortify your defense let the enemy deplete themselves out attacking it, the Eritreans used this tactic in 1998 war Ethiopia couldn’t get past Badme.
In 4 months 70k killed, 100k wounded and a failed counter offense. Ukrainians have run out of men there now using woman, Russians are also mostly using Wagner group and Chechen’s. Russian defense fortifications are depleting/annihilating the Ukrainian army.
