Saylac

Looks way smaller than I thought. The lack of development is actually shocking.

The archeological sites also need better management.

Interesting thing about the Qiblateyn mosque is that the only other mosque with a Qibla directed towards Jerusalem is the Sahaba mosque in Eritrea. The only problem with the theory is the lack of written sources in Islamic history pointing towards Sahaba settling in Zeila.

The old man that you see who is speaking about the history of Saylac is Sheikh Ibrahim Aw Kaariye Qawdhan Saylici. He is the custodian of the most famous religious sites in the town namely Masjid Qiblatain and the tomb of Shaykh Ibrahim Al Zaylici. His family has held the keys to the holy sites for over 400 years through inheritance from father to son. He is also currently serving as the Coordinator of Religious affairs in Saylac.

The producer and other guide is Bahabar Celi.

Salt mines 7km from Saylac. Is there a more mechanical way of doing their job using machines/technology?

Edit, one of the owners mentions the need for solar technology, how they’re still using ancient techniques……..
