There is a distance of 500 km between Kismaayo and Mogadishu, and 700 km between Garacad and Mogadishu. Hobyo is in between Garacad and Mogadishu so it will probably not be built if Garacad is built first.

Puntland has to make sure that the port gets built as quickly as possible, even if it is one wharf. Build and bring to operation the first wharf and you make it clear that Hobyo is going to be an uneconomic investment.

It doesnt even have to be a modern deep seaport. I would be happy if it became a make shift port like ceel macaan before it got shut down to revive mogadishu port. A port like ceel macaan with storage facilities that is connected to ethiopia by road will be profitable as well.

The wadaagsin project will be the x factor if garacad port wants to succeed.
