Honestly I think that Tiktok, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram should be banned in Somalia. Local versions controlled by the government should be developed like in China. These sites are used to spew Western propaganda, immortality, liberalism, rebellion and many more dangers and degeneracy. As a Muslim country it’s the government’s responsibility to prevent and censor this. We already see the effect that Tiktok is having among Somalis, imagine in a few generations if this disease is allowed to spread and fester.

Football is normal, nothing wrong with it. Bollywood and Turkish media is even OK in my opinion. But Netflix etc should all be banned.

Yes and no, there should be better efforts to counter degeneracy of social media with wholesome content, but it also has its convenience, the more feasible word is censorship. But at the end of the day, adults will do as they see fit, and as long as they aren't posing any physical harm, I always air on the side of minding my business

Freedom? How is saving children and adolescents from moral and social degradation limiting their freedom? Nobody is stopping them from going outside and enjoying their lives, playing football, socialising.

Shabaab find it very hard to control major cities nowadays because the youth love their freedom. No one sticks around in Shabaab tuulos and women want to have careers and go to school. Stop calling yourself an Islamist when you’ve said multiple times that you want Somalia to be a US colony. The fact you equate Islamic and Muslim values with Al Shabab and terrorism says everything.

You know, I totally understand why Siad Barre said he was Somalia's zookeeper. Too bad he was a brutal dictator and a filthy communist.

There's no point banning social media. They continue to act this way in real life. They don't need social media to keep the proud tradition of shaqo la'an and malayacni and buuq alive.

Somalia has to address it at the roots. I propose education camps for those aged 0-20. The government must brainwash them to become mild mannered like the indhayar but tough and fierce mentally and physically like western military might. They will also be educated by the brightest western minds for like 10 years until they can take over the education system. Everyone older than 20 must move to Oromia and make babies with them if they wish and join the Oromo ethnic group. I call them the "Phase Out Somalis". It's a win-win deal for 2 out of the 3 parties.

Any other idea will just not work.

If you really want to save Somali society, create jobs so that our youth have better things to do than social media.

One thing I’ll always be against is home grown social media. It’s a tool for government overreach and will always be used in a draconian manner to subjugate the populace.

As for existing social media, Somalia needs a social media safety board that act as a watchdog for social media content. They must have a strict mandate not to restrict political expression though.
