I have seen Somali diaspora celebrate independence in city squares and hoist the flag for some reason it makes me uncomfortable because I think it sends the wrong image about integration what do you think?
How so and why it send wrong image about intergration
What is wrong with somali ppl celebrating their lands independence day and their culture
And btw what is intergration is it Assimilation or
Why would it send wrong image about integration? It seems you are insecure about being somali and somali culture. Are we different than those people who still have their culture and have being in america for very long time. In the USA, the Irish celebrate their important days with massive irish flags and cultural clothes in a big parades. Nobody question their citizenship. they have been doing since 1800s.
There are many others celebrations mexican, french, arabs. greek, polish , italian jewish , swedish , finish, japanese, chinese. indians. pakistanis. afghanis, ukrainian and more
very view Africans celebrate their heritage in America
i have seen Igbo from nigeria, Eritreans, Ethiopians, somalis and African americans who celebrate their important days.
Advice
I suggest others africans need to organised and celebrate their roots. And keep your culture and language Because others are doing it. for example French in Qeubec keep their language and enforce it, The spanish speaking communties keep their langauge and culture, the chinese and japanese have Markets towns where you can visibly see their culture and language. Where is yours Africans!?
