Lol, there we go, every couple of days Siad Barre this Siad Barre that.
Was there anyone that could have overthrown himIts telling that Siad Barre after his severe car accident in 86β still didnβt relinquish power, which could have changed the events of the next three decades, including the atrocities you intend to use in a victim-olympics against another Somali entity, which dismisses peopleβs real pain and trauma, basically misappropriating the pain and trauma of one group to one-up the pain and trauma of another group.
One of the reasons Barre couldnβt step down, even if he wanted to, was the fact that the Somali government had become a one-family project, everyone from his wives, to his sons, to his relatives had a major stake in his dictatorship. This by default forced him to enact such unprecedented brutality and violence on the Somali population to stay in power. There was absolutely nothing to justify this violence, absolutely nothing. It was done in Somaliaβs name but it was not done for Somalia.
Today, the same is happening with HSM, whose wife, children, and relatives can be found across the entire Somali government in positions they have no right to be in. We learned nothing from the past. In fact in every section of the Somali peninsula you can observe the same pattern of nepotism, brutality against other clans, clan supremacy and lack of patriotism that characterised the latter half of Barreβs dictatorship.
Einstein called this the definition of madness.
Nah Rahanweyn lost more people in 1992-93 famine than Isaaq in 1988 bombing. Thought you can't blame it squarely on Siad Barre because Hawiye particularly Aidiid militia also did their fair share starving the Rahanweyn. Both SNF & USC are equally responsible, you'd think Barre and his troops who less than a year ago were leading a whole government for 20 years would act in a different manner instead of looting grain silos and burning farms. And Aidiid despite manning the largest militia would allow the delivery of aid into May people and the riverine area.Raxanweyn lost similar amounts to Isaaq during the war Idk if it was airal bombings like in north. Most clans down to the minority .5 got brutalised. That's why Somalia is low trust nowadays. While isaaq got brutalised severely out of anyone up north but they were far from the only clan.
What Darood? The Cumar Maxamuud sub clan of the Majerteen he swiftly reconciled with in the mid 80s? Shit I wish Barre also reconciled with the Hawiye & Isaaq back then but the Darood preferential treatment didn't extend to them as well. His half assed "political pardon programs" basically blamed the rebels for everything and prevented them from possibly taking part in any upcoming elections he said he will organize while he gets to remain in power lol.Siad Barre went crazy during that period, and by the way, he also killed many of the Daroods so no one was exempt from this.

Every Qabil has beef with the guy some way or another. Qabil grudges and Qabyalaad are amplified because of him.
True. Majeerteen should not be called Daarood.
However, SSDF was not just one MJ subclan. Who did he 'Swiftly reconcile' with? The only reason he made overtures to SSDF is because they brought the war to his deegaans.
He hated MJ more than anyone. What preferential treatment??
You tell me. Did he attack the Cisse Maxamuud or the Cismaan Maxamuud degaan? Why he's atrocities was confined to Mudug while in case of other clans he implemented a full scale scorched earth policies that resulted in collective punishment and mass casualties. He reconciled with the majority of SSDF when AY was imprisoned by Mengitsu offering money and their jobs back at the government. The current incomplete port of Bosasso was a part of the "gifts" he bestowed upon the SSDF.
I do agree that ever since he rised to power he specifically targeted MJ due to their immense and far reaching political influence and marksmanship on politics. Which is why he promoted the Dhulbahante and Ogaden on their expense to the point the government was known as MOD (Marexaan, Ogaden & Dhulbahante)
aidid stopped free aid and occupied d&m.Nah Rahanweyn lost more people in 1992-93 famine than Isaaq in 1988 bombing. Non - Madow minorities who used to hold a prestigious position during Siad Barre rule due to merchant history and contribution to economy were also killed, robbed and had their daughters forcefully divorced and mass married. A lot of people were killed back than which is why to this day Somalis can not trust eachothers and the current move by HSM to centerlize the state will fail.
He massacred us Xawaadle & also he armed refugees to try & take over our rich farmlands in southern somalia. We always hear about Isaaqs being the sole victims but were there bombings done against other clans too? If so, that would shatter the narrative of them being the sole victims
His troops attacked all the deegaans in Mudug and Nugaal, indiscriminately wiping out anyone who lived there. In addition, they poisoned the wells. He certainly did employ a 'Scorched earth policy". His troops were even ordered to rape and the girls had to be sent to other deegans to hide!
The real issue is that MJs do not talk of these atrocities so everyone thinks it was minimal.
