I was rummaging through my mums suitcase full of SNM memorabilia and found this. Both parent are member of SNM. Dad fought in the war. Found loads of original letters being sent to my parent from different headquarters from around a the globe. This is one of many.

May upload more documents in the coming days.

i don't understand why you're having a parade tho?
10 years of guerrilla war and a declaration of independence later, the place is still unrecognized and people are eating porcupines out of starvation. i'd say this was a failed mission :meleshame:
Even tho I don't agree with the SNM and Sland you can't deny that it's a piece of history that needs to be preserved

USC was nothing compared to SNM.
SNM was very organised, we had ranks, more money was poured into SNM.
SNM started in 1980,
USC started in 1990,
We funded USC, we started you guys off.
All USC did was loot.
USC ousted Barre's regime by force every body knows SNM just come when the regime collapsed, 1980 up to 1991 they were in the Bush

SNM ousted the censored from our land.
The majority of the army was up north we defeated them.
USC barley fought an army all they did was kill non hawiye members in the capital and loot everything.
And when SB finally made a run and USC had total control of the capital what did they do with it?

There were three major military bases:Dhuusomareeb and Dolow in the south and Buuhodle in the north. USC took over Dhuusomareeb and Dolow, Isaaqs can't set a foot in Buhodle even today let alone 26 years ago.

SNM captured Buhoodle, laska and everywhere within its borders. We made everyone then come to the Burco conference.
If it was not for HJ elders there would have been a complete massacre of Dhulbahante people.

USC benefited from a heavily weakened and demoralized Kacaan state in my opinion, they did the least work out of all the jabhad. When SNM was conducting the bulk of its operations in the mid- late 1980's, Kacaan probably had the one of the largest, and most well funded armies in Africa. They were fighting the full strength of the Somali State at the time.

USC was a last minute affair and they basically took Xamar unopposed. See here:
I heard a story recently that Aideed himself met the fleeing Isaaq civilians at Afgooye, and he told them to go back to Xamar, falsely insinuating that he made heshiis with SNM and would form a unity government.

It was actually the other way around. It was the SNM that took advantage of the emerging USC in the South and had little to no opposing since 1989 when Afweyne's attention was shifted towards the south. Everyone who was someone was called to Xamar whether it was Morgan or Cumar Jess.

As for their political clout, I think they weren't political savy. Egal, who had no contribution to the struggle, easily outmaneuvered and dismantled them. The Calan Cas fraction spearheaded by Muse Bihi was hiding in the bushes when he was around and now he's a serious contender. A real life example of when the cat is away, the mice will play. AUN Egal

Interesting and astute analysis Sxb.

We will have to respectfully agree to disagree on the dynamics of the rebel movements but your second point about political dynamics post civil war hits the nail on the head in my opinion. :salute:

Musa Bihi was little more than a groupie who took the credit of the true mujahids, the 99 unit of the SNM, comprised of Jibril Abokor (HA) based in Gabiley region. These individuals are well known in SL and they liberated the Galbeed region all the way to Zaylac. Gen Mohamed Hasan Abdullahi "Jidhif" and Gen Nuh Ismail Tani were among these to name a few. You correctly pointed out that Egal ran circles around the dameer Bihi, which is nothing but pure facts. Egal had the foreight to see the danger of his clan baiting and incompetence, and sacked him but his sub-clan elders intervened and got him reinstated. The fact that he is even in the running for SL leadership shows how inept the administration has become.

While Egal liquidated his assets to avoid conflicts of interest and left his comfortable retirement in the khaleej to serve his people, criminal Bihi since 1991 has been participating in the pillaging them and builds mansions using their money. Bihi is not even fit wipe the dirt from Egal's shoes, who was a true Geesi Geesi Dhalay.

AUN to Egal. Ilaahay Janada ha ka warabeyo aamin.
