There is nothing wrong with patriarchy. Alhamdulilah. Allah tells us that the men are protectors and maintainers of women in the Qur'an. I am not surprised at all that western raised gaals like @VixR hates Somalia, that hate extends towards all religious / Muslim countries.

I do not question the traditional gender roles ascribed to men and women in the Quran and Sunnah. I was playing the devil's advocate in support of VixR who was being unjustly maligned by Bahal even though I was the first one in this thread to suggest that Somali culture is intrinsically misogynistic by Western standards.

In the post of mine that you quoted, I argued that women in Somali society are not as liberated as the their Western sisters. This was done from a Western viewpoint, not my own personal views. I placed myself in the shoes of an non-religious/atheist Somali girl born/bred in the West. A Somali girl/woman of a liberal persuasion that has experienced the social freedoms and rights that come with living in a secular Western society will undoubtedly find gender roles in Somali society suffocating. Hence, why I told Steamdevelopment that the civil war happening was a blessing in disguise for her because she would probably never had the opportunity to rebel against the expected social/religious norms of her ethnic group to the extent that she has.

You are also being unfair to VixR. As strange as it may sound to you, she does not scapegoat Islam. I am not saying that she is pro-Islam but she comes across as being objective in her criticism.
