Somali basketball league 1980s footage

There whole lives where twisted upside down and they had to start fresh in new environments

I wonder if they can restart the college pipeline for Somali hoopers maybe it can start in Nairobi since it has the infrastructure with the NBA Africa league

We should definitely invite them back in and assemble as much of what we can from the past and use it re-construct thing back with a new flare.

It's a good thing we can rebuild things but also reconnect things back to past legacy and history.

Also i liked that article , it records peoples living memories. We need to document and record as much from people that are still alive.

And they'll tell you Siad Barre was the problem

I call it ''Siad Derangement Syndrome'' SDS for short.

It started to click for me when i heared that journalist who interviewed the opposition in the 80s/90s, and he said ''Nacayb Said Barre keliya aay haystaan waxba aay kama dhaafin''

Before that i was thinking maybe they had some legitimate criticisms and greviances, but that blew it open for me that they were just deranged and they hijacked the narrative to pass on that derangement to newer generations. They are soo consumed by resentment that it makes no sense, they cant even look at a fun memory from the past like that athletic performances @Chaseyourdreamzz posted on this thread because they are in the replies frotting at the mouth like some rabid dogs.

SARR ZIAD BARRE IS IZREALI SPY HE KILL 9 GORBILLION SOMALIANS

We were actually a country under him. Nearly 40 years after him we are still celebrating things like the central government taking back a bombed out village for the 50th time. With Ethiopia openly making deals to claim land. If this was the era of Siad Barre would an Abiy type leadership exist? Of course not he was the only president in the Republic that was on the offensive. While today's presidents issue statements and condemnation. Siad Barre was bombing habasha and training seperatists groups as well as flooding Galbeed freedom fighters with arms.

Djibouti became an independent country because of his diplomacy and upon independence he shielded it from being invaded by Ethiopia and controlled by them. Stationed troops to guard them, he did not annex it.

They lie and claim he was expansionist or try to slander Somalis with this ''irrendentism' term, when all he sought was to defend and liberate Somali people.

The Ogaden war was to liberate it so they can decide for themselves, it was a last resort when all diplomatic avenues, political lobbying, negotiations etc was exhausted and deteriorating situation in Ogaden demanded it.

Siad Barre wasn't trying to forcefully take Ogaden. See the advisor to Siad Barre explain:

''Somalia is not saying that Western Somali region must join it, But that it must be allowed to exercise it's right to self-determination, just as Djibouti was allowed to excercize her rights. Even if they choose to unite with Ethiopia or to be on their own - that will not be the concern of Somalia. Somalia only supports Western Somalia only in it's right to fight for independence''

Siad Barre for example did not invade Djibouti and force anything about , he instead lobbied for it's independence allowed them to form their own government without interference by Somalia. Both leading up to and independence France & Ethiopia tried to interfere.

Even during the backdrop of those insurgencies in the 1980s he continued to negotiate and lobby for the progress of NFD and Ogaden Somalis. Even for their own autonomy and protection within the respective countries of Ethiopia and Kenya.

The guy went far and beyond for his people , it's actually demented the slander we see.

When you peel back a lot of the stuff, is that they want Somalis to be fractured, weak, occupied, under the foot of foreign actors. If we resist , we are jihadists, pirates and irredentists. They employ all types of under handed tactics, propaganda and invite traitors to bring that about.

And you are right we truly was a country under him. I think more people are starting to see this. To me this symbolizes what Somalis are capable of.

Inshallah Somalia will become a real country again. Back in the 60s Somalia was hopelessly corrupt until the revolution happened and steered the country to the right direction. Somalia today suffers from mass corruption so perhaps we will see another government reform.

I think there is 2 path ways i believe Somalis can take to bring about a new direction. First is to lead a civic movement the way Abdi Samatar described it.

The second is create a political entity that can act as a political party, an army wing and a think-tank organ to express it's political philosophy and direction.

Puntland/SSC can be used as a base operation and starting point it's the only viable region for this at the moment and then you can expand and push south and north.

Then it is to reach out toe the adversaries of our enemies and ally with them for support. Set up some business and funding networks also.
