Somali beauty industry is sick and gross!

Lack of job opportunities is the cause of this tbh. The two (easy) ways to get rich in Somalia as a woman is to sell clothing or beauty products (bleaching agents). The first people to sell these products brought this nonsense from carab/timojilec countries where people hate dark skin far more and in order to sell their products they had to first induce a raging inferiority complex in the girls. I don’t think people remember how vile their colorist marketing used to be 💀 the first decade they started selling this shit in Somalia they’d tell the girls dark skin = unhygenic, they’d tell the girls they’d never find a spouse as long as they were darker, ”doqon iyo habeen ba madow” etc. Now they see bleaching agents as a normal part of their beauty regimen, but it took alot of brainwashing to get there.

I genuinely believe these people need to be jailed. Them and the ones that sell the fattening pills.

The truth is these women hate midibka Ilaahay siiyey, people, oddly enough, like to blame the seller while ignoring the fiend-like behavior of the consumers.

I also don’t understand this new mentality that "these women are victims who don’t know better and are influenced by ajnabi TV shows." If that's all it takes for you to buy skin-damaging products just to look like people you see on TV, then the blame is on you for lacking common sense. Many of these women know the risks of using these products but still choose to buy them because looking more lighter is more important to them than their health.

And what is the government doing? How can you call yourself a government when you can't even ban these skin-damaging products nationwide? They are spreading across the country like wildfire and causing all sorts of health issues. It’s not hard to make a swift decision on this matter. They are quick to arrest anyone who speaks ill of them online but can’t ban a product that is damaging to their own citizens. These siyaasiyiin don't even put effort into protecting their own citizens when it comes to these issues, a bunch of calool u shaqayste yaal.
its not just what people prefer they literally bully you if you have dark skin that can deffo take a toll on your self-esteem

Female shopkeepers started this shit 10-15 years ago, no one other than them should be held accountable. This has nothing to do with tv-shows or media representation tbh, they had a good decade or two were they would be advertising their products by constantly insulting dark skin.

Women in Somalia are poor and their greatest ambition in life is to secure a husband, esp one who has a little bit of money.

If someone keeps telling you that lightening your skin will widen your dating pool you’ll end up doing it eventually 🤷🏽‍♀️ even today I still see them online telling girls their beauty will ”pop” more if they use the creamy crack.
