I've recently been looking at somali language books on Facebook. Particularly bookstores like iqra books. What shocked me was I didn't expect that many books are being written in somali . There are even people translating famous postcolonial books into somali. My question is for those of you who read af somali well. How would you rate the quality of prose in these somali books?

I watched one of the clips from the puntland book fair. One of the government guys gave some book statsics. Apparently 450 books were published this year in puntland. Several dozens book conferences were held altogether. And apparently 17 book clubs were established.
I think If we extrapolate this based on puntland being less than a third of the somali pouplation. then I don't think it would be a stretch to say that close to 2k book titles were published in somalia.

Yeah it shocked me how many somali books are out there. Especially the translations of all of these English books that are not even extermely pouplar into somali. I'm honestly beginning to think more books are published in somalia then in a lot of these other african countries.
I’ve travelled in several African countries I can say we are miles ahead the only thing we are missing is full peace and stability.
I didn't use to fully belive when people told me that literature was highly appreciated in somalia. But considering the sheer number of literature related events held all over somalia . I have to agree. Maybe it's because the somali language and by connection the literature is seen as the core part of our heritage. Since our environment means that material stuff like art was not a big thing for us.
